This may sound strange, but I’ve recently discovered that my favorite month of the year is January. I love the thought of a fresh start, a new beginning and a clean slate. I love a brand new calendar with its twelve months of blank pages and for me, picking my “Word” for the year is very serious business.
Before I tell you about my Word for 2014, let me tell you about what I discovered in 2013. The biggest single event of last year was that I got up out of my chair and started walking every morning.
Such a simple thing, walking. It doesn’t take much equipment, just good shoes, warm clothes, and a strong desire along with a good dose of stick-to-itiveness. For me that hour, first thing in the morning, has become my favorite time of my day. No matter what happens during the rest of the day, I know I did something good for me – I walked!
The healthy feeling walking brings spills over into the way I think, the way I try and eat and how much sleep I try to get. It took me about fifteen years to once again commit to regular exercise but once I walked that first morning way back in September, I knew I was hooked.
So, my word for 2014 is Health. I don't know what is in store for me in 2014 but I do know that it is my duty to make the best of what I have been given - to eat healthy, get plenty of sleep and to exercise.
Do you make New Year’s resolutions or pick a word that sums up what you hope to achieve in the upcoming year? I encourage you to and hope you'll share your word with us here - it the first step to making your plan.
Make it a happy and healthy New Year!
