Monday I treated myself to a day off. Do you ever do that, plan a play day right after a big project? I do it all the time - get this done and then you can do this. A dangling carrot if you will.
So yesterday I played hooky from work and spent the whole day shopping for nothing in particular at a major Southern California mall. I like shopping all most as much as I like to sew.
As I was standing in line at William Sonoma waiting to pay for my annual purchase of Hot Chocolate Mix, I watched as the clerk rang up the woman's purchases ahead of me. She literally had stacks of tins full of WS holiday treats like Peppermint Bark, Mud Pies and English Toffee.
I said to her, Excuse me, but you look like you might be an expert on holiday treats. Which do you recommend? She replied without a thought, Whammies! Do yourself a favor, she said and don't buy them. You'll be up in the middle of the night breaking open the tins you bought for hostess gifts. They are insanely good!
This photo is from William Sonoma's website. They look better than this in person. More ooey gooey and soft. Or maybe that's just after you and your friend try and share a piece by pulling it apart in the middle of a crowded mall because you know, a half a Whammie doesn't have any calories.
Yes, my friend ignored the woman's warning and bought a tin but we made it ride home in the trunk of the car. We knew those Whammies wouldn't be safe up front with us.
I wonder how my friend slept last night?
