We sell tons of colored fold over elastic (FOE). Gosh, a few years ago I had never even heard of it and now a day never goes by that we aren't cutting yards and yards of the stuff.
The funny thing is, we sell it for ponytail holders and headbands, not for its intended use of sewn in elastic.
FOE is a hot trend for teens to wear in their hair and word is out that you can get it for cheap at Strawberry Patches. All you need to do is double it and tie a knot - no sewing. We've had girls stand around the cutting table asking us to show them how to tie the knot. They can make what costs three dollars in the stores for about twenty cents simply by tying a single knot!
I've been begging my vendors to bring in the glittery kind for over a year and last week one of them stopped me in the aisle at the hobby and craft show to tell me they were finally getting it in.
I immediately ordered one of every color sight unseen and Tuesday our order arrived.
As a bonus they also brought in these cute glittery polka dot ones in five colors.
It's hard to see in this photo but the dots are glittered.
At sixty five cents to a dollar twenty a yard I'm never going to get rich selling the stuff, but I love that it gets young girls into our quilt shop. I strategically place it toward the back of the store so they have to walk pass the pretty quilts and fabric to get to it.
I'm hoping someday some of them will ask about classes on something other than tying knots. We'll see...
Encourage one another,
